Mystical Dance-Drama on Life and Death
"With my last breath, I thank fate for allowing me to be human, and for the spark of reason that shone even in my shadowed soul. I have seen the earth, the sky, and the seasons. I have known love, glimpses of reality, desires, and disappointments. I have lived on this earth and gradually awakened. One day I will die—and how wonderfully natural and simple that is! Could anything else, better or grander, have happened to me? It could not. I have experienced the fullest, the grandest human destiny. Nothing more, nothing better could have happened." — Sándor Márai
Anyone who has ever approached the spirit of folk tradition knows that, according to their sacred beliefs, our physical existence does not end at the moment of rest. Through a passage, our divine essence reaches eternity. The poetry of ancient customs tied to the various stages of earthly life is filled with motifs that transform the moment of arrival in the afterlife into a celebration. Our purifying rituals and ceremonies, through mystical experience, offer the possibility of ultimate fulfillment.
Our performance transports the audience into a dreamlike world, where, through a ritual dance linked to the final transformation, we celebrate the “greatest”—the miracle of LIFE.
Sunset is dedicated in memory of Director Gyula Levente Deák, dancers Imola Virág, Ágnes Váradi, Helga Katalin Csákány, stage technician Ernő Gábor Maksai, and all our departed colleagues and friends who joined the heavenly ensemble too soon.
