The Lajtha László Foundation and the Háromszék Dance Theatre have been successfully organizing Folk Dance Houses in Sfântu Gheorghe for years, which every year address new generations and introduce them to the world of folk music and folk dance. We believe that the opportunity to learn folk dances and to get to know folk culture should be provided to young people on a continuous basis, as the participants not only have fun, but also have the opportunity to incorporate traditional folk dances and folk songs into their cultural preferences.
Folk Dance Houses are held on average every 2-3 weeks in the lobby of the Tamási Áron Theatre in Sfântu Gheorghe. On these occasions, live music is provided by the orchestra of Háromszék Dance Theatre (Heveder orchestra) and the Folker ensemble.
In the 2022/2023 Folk Dance House season, our excellent dance artists will continue to take turns hosting our events, offering lively and exciting programmes, dance and singing lessons for those interested in folk music and folk dance.
In the same period, we are also planning 6 major festive events on special days: the Catherine Day Folk Dance House, the Christmas Folk Dance House , the Carnival Folk Dance House, the St. George's Day Folk Dance House, and the Folk Dance House on the occassion of Folk Dance and Music Festival (November 2022). Our festive Folk Dance Houses will also attract people who are not otherwise part of our stable target audience interested in folk traditions. Thus, we are sure that there is a demand for this kind of cultural, communal experience and encounters among the urban public.
Our Folk Dance Houses are an outstanding and quality event in the cultural life of Sfântu Gheorghe.
