We\u2019re welcoming the first month of summer with a diverse program:<\/strong>
We\u2019re bringing our folk dance performance This Side of the Tisza, Beyond the Danube<\/em> back to the stage, we\u2019ll be hosting the Udvarhely Folk Dance Workshop Ensemble, and we\u2019re joining the nationwide Night of Movement event series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chamber version of our performance Home in the Homeland<\/em>, presented under the title This Side of the Tisza, Beyond the Danube<\/em>, will be performed in three towns this June.
We\u2019ll take the stage on June 3 in Nagyajta, on June 4 in Esztelnek, and finally on June 29 in Sz\u00e9kelyderzs, as part of the 210th Hail Commemoration Boundary Procession and the 23rd Village Days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More about the performance:<\/strong>
In this chamber production, we invite our audience on a dance-filled journey both east of the Tisza and west of the Danube. We step beyond the familiar landscapes of Transylvania\u2014the hills and plains we know so well\u2014and leave behind the region whose culture has been an inseparable part of our lives since childhood, one we speak almost as a native language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We head westward to draw deeply from the dances and folk music of the Pal\u00f3c people and the herders\u2014swineherds, shepherds, horsemen, and cattlemen\u2014of the Hortob\u00e1gy, as well as the world of the Somogy peasants. Although all part of the same spiritual heritage, each community brings its own unique richness and values to light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Transcarpathia we gain a glimpse into the folk culture of the Seklers of Visk and the Roma community of Nagypal\u00e1d.
Our journey concludes on the Great Plain, in the Hungarian town of Szeghalom, B\u00e9k\u00e9s County. Along the way, we encounter ancient traditions reaching far into the past, as well as modern waves of urbanized customs. All the while, we\u2019ll share the treasures we bring from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music is performed by the Heveder Band<\/strong>, whose energetic rhythms and sensitive melodies intertwine to create a captivating musical journey that transports the listener to the atmospheric landscapes of historical Greater Hungary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In mid-June, the Udvarhely Folk Dance Ensemble will make up for their postponed Sepsiszentgy\u00f6rgy guest performance originally scheduled for April.<\/strong>
Their folk dance production titled Rare Hungarian<\/em>, directed by Csaba Zsolt T\u0151k\u00e9s, will be performed on June 11<\/strong> at H\u00e1romsz\u00e9k Dance Studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RARE HUNGARIAN<\/strong>
In memory of Zolt\u00e1n Kall\u00f3s<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The title of this folk dance performance, created in memory of Zolt\u00e1n Kall\u00f3s, refers both to the paternal and maternal homeland of the renowned ethnomusicologist\u2014namely the region along the Little Some\u0219 River and Northern Mez\u0151s\u00e9g\u2014and to the area's rich dance and musical traditions. Symbolically, it also alludes to the increasingly depopulated, scattered Hungarian communities of the Mez\u0151s\u00e9g, and to the exceptional legacy of Zolt\u00e1n Kall\u00f3s himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this spirit, the creators of Rare Hungarian<\/em> aim to convey what may have been \u201cUncle Zoli\u2019s\u201d most important message to us all: a reminder of life\u2019s impermanence and a call to recognize how crucial it is to consider what we leave behind for the generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our End of Season Folk Dance House<\/strong> will take place on Friday, June 13<\/strong>, at B\u00e1bel House of Culture. With this event, we are also joining the Night of Movement<\/strong> initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This nationwide program highlights the importance of regular physical activity and a healthy, active lifestyle, while also emphasizing community and fun. The Night of Movement encourages local communities to connect through various forms of movement\u2014whether it's dance, sports, walking, or play\u2014by taking part in shared activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our hosts will once again be Katalin Stef\u00e1n-Dobai<\/strong> and Bencze Stef\u00e1n<\/strong>, who will start the evening at 8:00 PM with beginner-level dance instruction from Bodonk\u00fat (Kalotaszeg region)<\/strong>.
Judit Er\u0151ss<\/strong> will lead the singing workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
