We are preparing a rich and varied repertoire for the first month of spring. Audiences can look forward to the chamber version of our production Home in the Homeland, as well as the folk dance performance This Side of the Tisza, Beyond the Danube. We will also welcome the Maros Art Ensemble as guest performers, while two of our own productions, Home in the Homeland and Lúdas Matyi will go on tour in the second half of the month.
Between March 6–8, we will present This Side of the Tisza, Beyond the Danube in the towns of Covasna (Kovászna), Zăbala (Zabola), and Ghelința (Gelence).
About the performance:
In this chamber production, we invite our audience on a dance journey through the regions east of the Tisza River and west of the Danube. We momentarily step away from the familiar landscapes of Transylvania—mountains and plains that feel like home—and venture into territories whose cultural rhythms, while part of the same Hungarian heritage, offer distinct and varied treasures.
Heading westward, we immerse ourselves in the dances and folk music of the Palóc people, the herdsmen of the Hortobágy (shepherds, swineherds, horsemen, and cattle drovers), and the rustic world of Somogy peasants. These traditions, though part of the same cultural fabric, reveal different textures and tones.
From the region of Transcarpathia, we explore the folk traditions of the Seklers of Visk and the Roma community of Nagypalád. Our journey culminates in the Hungarian lowlands, in the village of Szeghalom, Békés County. Throughout this dance odyssey, ancient roots and refined urban influences intertwine—yet we never lose sight of the cultural essence we carry from home.
The musical accompaniment is provided by the Heveder folk band, whose vibrant rhythms and heartfelt melodies create a sonic journey that transports listeners to the enchanting landscapes of historical Hungary.

On March 19, we are pleased to welcome the Maros Art Ensemble to Sepsiszentgyörgy with their production Invisible Celebrations, choreographed and directed by Hortenzia Lőrincz.
About the performance:
“There are not only red-letter days in the calendar.
Life brings us other kinds of invisible celebrations, too.
When they arrive, forget everything—
and focus on the celebration.”
— Sándor Márai
The inspiration for this production is the 70th birthday of Mihály Dresch, an iconic figure in Hungarian ethno-jazz, recipient of the Kossuth and Liszt Ferenc Awards, and named both Distinguished and Excellent Artist of Hungary. This milestone gave rise to the idea of creating a performance centered on the female experience, drawing from the music of the Dresch Quartet and the Dresch String Quartet.
Just as Dresch’s music blends traditional Hungarian folk with jazz, Invisible Celebrations fuses folk and contemporary dance elements. The production, created by female choreographers, explores the power, beauty, and significance of women’s rituals—those unspoken moments that mark the rhythms of life. Through a sequence of symbolic acts, the performance evokes both sacred and everyday rites, offering a poetic glimpse into intimate, hidden layers of celebration.
